Bottom Line Health distributes their newsletters to an audience of 30 million. This is a great item to share with others as a pro-posture message in mainstream national media that directs the general public to consult a professional and quotes a chiropractic expert.
In a recent issue of Dynamic Chiropractic, Executive Editor Peter
W. Crownfield summarized findings from a series of studies within
the Global Burden of Disease 2010 Project. This massive collaboration
between the World Health Organization, the Institute for Health
Metrics and Evaluation (the
coordinating center), the University of Queensland School of
Population Health, Harvard School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the University of Tokyo,
Imperial College London shines a light on the worldwide health burden
of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly back and neck pain,
identifying low back pain as the number-one cause of disability
worldwide and neck pain the number-four cause. Overall, musculoskeletal
conditions represent the second leading cause of global disability.

On August 25, 2012 at the Florida Chiropractic Association National Convention in Orlando, Florida, Gert Bronfort, DC, PhD was awarded the 2012 Lincoln Research Prize for Chiropractic and Biomechanics. Among the outstanding nominees for the Prize, Dr. Bronfort was selected for demonstrating excellence in clinical research that most significantly contributed to the body of knowledge and also directly impacted patient care over the past three years.
The Prize was founded by its three sponsors, the Florida Chiropractic Foundation for Education & Research (FCF), Lincoln Chiropractic College Education & Research Fund (LCERF), and Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA), along with the Lincoln Endowed Research Chair at the University of South Florida, in order to bring attention to chiropractic research and build the image of chiropractic in the scientific research community worldwide. The Prize is awarded to an individual who demonstrates the most outstanding research productivity in patient-oriented, epidemiological, and health outcomes research related to chiropractic care. At $20,000, the Lincoln Research Prize is the largest research prize in the chiropractic profession. The Inaugural Lincoln Research Prize was awarded to Dr. Scott Haldeman in 2011.
During 2009-2011, Dr. Bronfort was the lead scientist on three new large federal research grants designed to determine the effectiveness of chiropractic manipulation and exercise for headache, low back pain, and spinal dysfunction.
Positive comments abounded at the recent FCA National Convention about the article by President Craig Newman, D.C. in the pre-convention issue of the FCA Journal. Dr. Newman told his own story and related it to the diversity within the FCA and the FCA’s continued actions to support and defend a practice act that allows DC’s to practice as broadly or narrowly as they see fit and are competent to do, to the full extent of their chiropractic training. Member feedback has been the guiding force in the more than 80 years that FCA has lobbied proactively on behalf of chiropractic and your continued feedback and support will allow FCA to provide the tools you need to succeed and to do what YOU want to do to best serve YOUR patients.
Literally hundreds of FCA members know Eileen Perman, matriarch of the Perman family and President of the FCA Auxiliary for many decades. She has served Florida's chiropractic community in many ways, including outstanding service on the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine. We mourn her recent passing. In response to many member requests for information on plans to honor Eileen, we post this heartfelt letter from her son and your colleague, Rep. Steve Perman, D.C.
To All My Friends And Colleagues,
As most of you already know, my mother, Eileen Perman, lost her battle with cancer on August 13th. She was so much a part of chiropractic in Florida for over 30 years, running FCA's Auxiliary for a remarkable three decades, accompanying my father, Dr Bill, and attending every meeting during his nine-years of service on the State Board of Chiropractic Medicine, and finally being appointed herself to serve on the State Board as its consumer member, a position she held for years until her passing.
When she was laid to rest on August 16th, we had a private, tearful, graveside ceremony. But my dad, brother Dennis, and I knew that many whose lives mom had touched would want to pay their respects, so we will be having a memorial event, not to further grieve, but rather to celebrate a remarkable woman and an extraordinary life that was truly dedicated to giving and helping others.

Anyone and everyone who wishes to attend is welcome and if they so desire, say a few words. Please DO NOT send flowers or food. Those who wish to make a charitable gesture in mom's memory can make a tax-free donation to the Florida Chiropractic Foundation, earmarked for the Eileen Perman Memorial Scholarship which I have just established. The scholarship money will be used to help a deserving, Florida-resident Chiropractic student, since education was absolutely one of my mom's highest values.
We fully realize that not everyone who knew and loved Eileen can participate in person or through a contribution, so our family would be very happy if on the afternoon of Sept. 9th, you would just take a moment and remember mom and how selflessly she devoted her life to her family, friends, the profession, and the public we serve. Your prayers and positive thoughts are greatly appreciated.
