In a recent release from Dr. Ray Foxworth, President of ChiroHealth USA, he reminds us that providers are vulnerable when it comes to HIPAA compliance. And the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) are well aware of that vulnerability, as HHS and the OCR have launched Phase 2 of their HIPAA Audit Program earlier this year.
Great news! As an appreciated member of the Florida Chiropractic Association, we are pleased to introduce a NEW BENEFIT – COMPLIMENTARY F4CP MEMBERSHIP.
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about chiropractic care via positive press. Now, as a F4CP member, you are entitled to take advantage of its wonderful membership benefits – including permission to personalize and use all of its marketing material, which can be seen at www.f4cp.com. This benefit is made possible because of the high level of support FCA has given and continues to give to F4CP.

In a September 24 ruling, the Florida Supreme Court unanimously concludes that the public is at significant risk from for-profit lawyer referral services that also refer clients to other businesses and instructs the Florida Bar to adopt strong rules precluding lawyers from accepting referrals from non-lawyer owned referral services. The Florida Bar Board of Governors ignored the Special Committee on Lawyer Referral Services’ recommendation that lawyers be prohibited from accepting referrals from non-layer owned referral services. Instead, the Board of Governors amended a current referral service rule to allow the status quo of allowing for-profit referral services owned by non-lawyers to operate. It is that amendment the Florida Supreme Court rejected, and instructed The Florida Bar to propose amendments that preclude Florida lawyers from accepting referrals from any lawyer referral service that is not owned or operated by a member of the Florida Bar.
Friends, it is imperative that we all "answer the call" when you see these alert bulletins in your e-mail box. Please take a look at the alert bulletin below and contact your representative in Washington and urge that they cosponsor this legislation. All it takes is a few mouse clicks and your time and effort will be helping your profession and our patients. If you have previously contacted your federal officials on these issues, please do so again. If you haven't, please do so today. Thank you!
Earlier this year, three separate pieces of ACA-backed legislation were introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that would expand patient access to the services provided by doctors of chiropractic in several federal health care delivery systems. It is very important that doctors of chiropractic, chiropractic assistants, and chiropractic students immediately contact their elected officials in Washington and urge that they cosponsor each of these measures. Current cosponsors can be found here.
