COVID FAQs – PIP Deadlines and LMTs

Q: Have PIP submission or payment deadlines been extended based upon COVID?
A: NO.  While auto accidents were significantly reduced in number the last couple of months, with more cars venturing on the roadways, we should expect that number to rise in the next coming months.  However, OIR confirmed with the FCA by email that OIR has NOT issued any guidance as to PIP and billing or payment extension deadlines based upon COVID.  Likewise, the Governor has not issued any Executive Order relating to PIP billing or payment deadlines.  The status quo currently holds so be sure to submit timely PIP billing in order to avoid denials by PIP carriers.
Q: Can LMTs now fully practice, whether in conjunction with treatment or for patients wanting a relaxing massage?
A: YES.  The COVID-19 Hotline recently clarified via an email to a member the following:
Under the Governor’s Executive Order 20-112 which takes effect Monday, May 4, 2020 at 12:01 a.m., medical services, including elective procedures, surgical centers, office surgery centers, dental offices, orthodontic offices, endodontic office and other health care practitioners' offices may fully re-open.
For your reference, Chapter 480 covering Massage Practice is included in the definition of “Health care practitioner” under Ch. 456, Florida Statutes to include any person licensed under chapter 457; chapter 458; chapter 459; chapter 460; chapter 461; chapter 462; chapter 463; chapter 464; chapter 465; chapter 466; chapter 467; part I, part II, part III, part V, part X, part XIII, or part XIV of chapter 468; chapter 478; chapter 480; part II or part III of chapter 483; chapter 484; chapter 486; chapter 490; or chapter 491.
This is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation. The CDC and State of Florida will continue to provide updated information and guidance through their websites.
Please be sure to visit and regularly monitor the Department's dedicated COVID-19 webpage at www.FloridaHealth.gov/COVID-19.  This remains the best and most up-to-date resource for information and guidance regarding COVID-19 in Florida.
