CMS Releases Video on Improving Chiropractic Documentation in Medicare
By Debra Minor Brown
Thursday, 07 January 2016
January 1, 2016 is the first phase of the educational and training programs to be released by CMS. The Provider Compliance Group (PCG) at the centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) developed an educational tool in the form of a public video, titled "Improving the Documentation of Chiropractic Services."

The focus of this video is to help doctors of Chiropractic properly document their services. In 2014, the improper payment rate for chiropractic services was 54 percent, and many of the errors were attributed to insufficient documentation. CMS has provided this video to highlight the significance of chiropractic documentation on the credibility of the profession and ultimately the financial impact in low reimbursements and increased recovery efforts.

COCSA and the other National affiliates are encouraging the entire profession to review this video as a first phase educational tool for everyone.

More resources are available from the FCA.

The FCA has focused on Medicare documentation for a very long time, increasing the level and intensity of programs each year. This year, we are including presentations by Drs. Conway and Jacklitch, who represent the ACA and are involved in ongoing discussions directly with CMS and Medicare, at all of its conventions.

Resources available to our members in addition to those referenced in the video can be accessed on the "Medicare/CMS" section of the FCA website.  And FCA members can request necessary assistance from our Help Desk through insurance@fcachiro.org
