2012 Florida Legislative Session Update: Committee Approves Bad House PIP Bill by Jack Hebert, FCA Government Relations Director and Paul Lambert, FCA General Counsel
Over strong objections by the provider community, attorneys and consumer groups, the House Economic Affairs Committee today passed yet another re-draft of a PIP/No-Fault reform measure on a straight party-line vote. The latest version of the bill, which only came into public view last night, continues to unfairly deny accident victims the right to seek treatment by chiropractic physicians. No amendments were adopted by the committee.
Senate PIP Bill Scheduled Next Week On next Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 28, the Senate Budget Committee is scheduled to hear SB 1860, the Senate’s version of PIP/No-fault reform. The Senate proposal is making its final stop in the Budget Committee before heading to the Senate floor. The Senate bill is a much more thoughtful and measured approach dedicated to truly fighting fraud which gives injured accident victims freedom of choice in selecting providers and treatment options. Watch for future updates from the capitol next week as we head into the eighth week of this year’s session.
