Law Enforcement Questioning When Staff and Patients Are on the Roadways?
By FCA Asst. General Counsel Kim Driggers
Wednesday, 08 April 2020
The Governor’s Executive Order 20-91 restricts Floridians from travelling the roadways, regardless of hour, if it is for a non-essential activity. Section 1(b) states:
“In concert with the efforts of President Trump and the White House Coronavirus Task Force to fight COVID-19, and based on guidance provided by Florida Surgeon General and State Health Officer, Dr. Scott Rivkees, all persons in Florida shall limit their movements and personal interactions outside of their home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities.”

While the FCA has only received a few calls reporting law enforcement questioning drivers or clinic owners, you may want to consider instituting the following proactive measures:

For you and your staff: (1) Carry a business card showing that you work at a chiropractic office.  (2) Print and carry the following excerpts from the EO 20-91, including chiropractic as an essential business.

For your patients:  Upon scheduling the appointment, with their permission, email or text them this letter that they can print and carry in the car with them to show they are on their way to/from a chiropractic appointment:

Dear X,
Thank you for scheduling your appointment with Dr. ____ on ____ at ___ am / pm located at ___________, FL.  We look forward to seeing you.
If, since the time of making your appointment, you have developed any symptoms of a respiratory infection including cough, sore throat, fever, or if you have been around anyone who has had those symptoms and/or been exposed to COVID-19, and you feel that you can wait to be seen, please call and reschedule.  If you are symptomatic and in pain and need to be seen, please contact us by phone prior to your arrival so we can take additional precautions upon your arrival.
Thank you,
