“Red Flags Rule” No Longer Applicable to Chiropractors

Congress passed Senate Bill 3987 exempting physicians from the “Red Flags Rule.” With the U.S. Senate vote on December 2 and the House vote bill on December 7, Congress unanimously sends the bill to the President who is expected to sign the bill into law before January 1, 2011, the date the “Red Flags Rule” takes full effect on physician practices.

Biomedical Waste Permits – You May Need One

A chiropractor that generates more than twenty-five pounds of biomedical waste during each 30-day period is required by Florida Statute to apply for a permit from the Department of Health. Doctors generating some but less than twenty-five pounds during each 30-day period are entitled to apply for an exemption from permitting. Chiropractors who do not generate any biomedical waste need not apply for an exemption.

The Postcard Is in the Mail: Does Your Practice Qualify for the New Small Business Tax Credit?

               (Republished from the ACA “Week in Review” of June 3, 2010)  The Internal Revenue Service has begun mailing postcards  to more than 4 million small businesses and tax-exempt organizations to make them aware of the benefits of the recently enacted small business health care tax credit. The credit, which takes effect this year, is designed to encourage small business employers to offer health insurance coverage for the first time or maintain coverage they already have.  In general, the credit is available to small business employers that pay at least half the cost of single coverage for their employees in 2010.  Read more here
