In an effort to help the environment, the FCA has been posting class notes from Conventions whenever possible. These notes are available via a password given in the class and will be available on the site on the day of the class until the week of the following convention (around two months). Contact us if you were in the class and have lost the password. If you do not see a class below, the notes were likely given out in class and are not a part of the notes available online.
The digital technology lecture deals with basic information regarding computed radiology (CR) and direct digital systems (DR). A decision making process will be described on optimal equipment purchase as well as practical applications on producing optimal films.

Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) cause over 100,000 hospitalizations and over 16,000 deaths a year in the United States alone. NSAIDs are commonly prescribed by medical physicians, self-prescribed as over-the-counter medications by our patients, and even recommended by many non-medical physicians in the over-the-counter forms. Adverse side effects of NSAIDs in addition to those that are life-threatening include interference with liver detoxification, joint healing, fracture healing, nutritional health, and others. These adverse effects impede effective chiropractic care and are barriers to positive clinical outcomes. Natural, safe, highly effective alternatives to NSAIDs that every physician should know how to use will be discussed.
In today’s tight economy it is increasingly important to give the patient more than they expect and to do it effectively and efficiently. The small office presents the greatest active care challenge with reduced space and personnel. This class will attempt to give the clinician the insight and tools to provide high quality functional rehabilitation at a reasonable cost giving both the practitioner and the patient more bang for the buck.
Chiropractic nutrition is the use of diet and food supplements to support the chiropractic adjustment and the tool for addressing the biochemical aspect of the subluxation. The subluxation is the way the body speaks to us about its needs. Disturbances in function cause specific subluxations by way of the viscero-somatic reflex. Chronic visceral dysfunction and overload will cause a persistent or recurring subluxation. Relying on the perfect testimony of the recurring subluxation to determine nutritional needs enables the doctor of chiropractic to accomplish great things.
In 2008, the acid reflux drug Nexium was the second highest prescribed medication in the United States. The digestive symptoms of acid reflux, bloating, constipation, and irritable bowel are now so common that most people consider them to be ‘normal’. In this presentation, David Hogsed, D.O.M. discusses the fundamental root causes underlying these widespread digestive problems, and why effective nutrition protocols for detoxification and healthy digestion may also be necessary for successful outcomes with seemingly unrelated disorders (musculoskeletal inflammation, obesity, hormone imbalances, etc.). Recent research validating the use of intestinal probiotics for metabolic health will also be discussed.
This course establishes an overview for the purpose of documentation and record keeping - teaching doctors to establish medical necessity, document with SOAP Notes, while emphasizing that all records must prove to be evidence-based. Dr. Wellikoff will review CMT Codes, along with evaluation and management codes, modifiers, physical medicine and rehabilitation documentation. Doctors will be have a good knowledge of the above mentioned along with ICD-9, ICD-10, and HCPCS Level II codes by the end of this 2 hour course, and be able to directly implement these updates and changes in their office Monday Morning!
This presentation will review cardiovascular pathogenesis, laboratory assessment, and nutritional therapy for complementary care physicians. Why is cardiovascular disease still the number one killer despite unprecedented awareness and a vast array of drugs that address this disease process? Get to the HEART of cardiovascular disease by looking at the role of the most relevant factors involved in development, including stress, hormonal shifts, bone health, and the overwhelmingly negative effect of the modern diet. A thorough review of the numerous lab tests related to the cardiovascular system and dysfunctional metabolism will provide an excellent base for assessment and understanding the effects of the disorder. An overview of Metabolic Syndrome will offer insight into the substantial role of refined carbohydrates, sugars, and acidic foods in CVD. The role of hormones, including insulin, PTH, cholecalciferol, thyroid, and testosterone will be explained. A clear and concise look at the most pervasive problem in American health care makes this lecture a powerful bridge to clinical success.

In this stand-alone session, participants will learn simple, cutting-edge techniques for acute pain based on combining principles of the modern neurology of pain with those of traditional acupuncture meridian therapy. In lecture, demonstration, and workshop, easy-to-use methods will be taught for evaluating and treating patients with pain ranging from “on-the-field” injuries up to about one week following the onset of pain. All techniques are performed by hand, so no special equipment or acupuncture needles are necessary. Also discussed are several key nutritional and biochemical factors that can cause, enhance, and prolong acute pain. These non-AK pain relief techniques, originally developed with manual muscle testing by Dr. Schmitt, have been adapted for non-AK practitioners and are designed to be taught to your patients for home care. These powerful, highly effective pain relief techniques are based on Dr. Schmitt’s popular book “Stop Your Pain Now!”
This course will provide participants with information on the Physician Quality Reporting
Initiative (PQRI). The importance and implications of this program for the chiropractic profession, how to participate in PQRI and information about the requirement to participate in PQRI beginning in 2015 will all be covered. This program will give participants the tools needed to begin participating in PQRI today.
Dr. Davila will discuss where audits come from as well as how our treatment plans often cause red flags in the insurance world. He will give a detailed outline of corporate compliance policies and courtesies as well as OIG compliance in financial policies and review of opinions and regulations. Dr. Davila will give advice that doctors will be able to implement in their practice Monday Morning!
