The National Opioid Crisis: YOU Can Help

Nothing has captured the American consumer more than the opioid crisis. What the chiropractic community has been saying for years is now being said by everyone: opioids kill and there is a need to find a non-drug alternative.
 
It should be us – the chiropractic profession – that answers this question. However, other non-pharmacologic provider groups have their own agendas, and we can’t let them win in the field of public opinion.

2017 Session Finally Ends, PIP Repeal Dead

Tallahassee – State lawmakers returned to Tallahassee on Monday of this week, finally approving a state budget late in the evening, officially ending their 2017 regular session. Originally scheduled to end on the previous Friday, both Houses agreed to a three-day extension to accommodate the 72-hour “cooling off” period required before a final vote could be taken on the budget.

Governor Scott Declares Opioid Epidemic State of Emergency

Tallahassee – In an unprecedented action, Governor Scott, Wednesday declared an opioid epidemic threatening the State of Florida with an emergency.  In his Executive Order No. 17-146, Governor Scott recognized the 33,000 nationwide deaths and 3,900 Florida deaths due to opioids.

Third District Court of Appeal Upholds Lower Court Decision That the Disparity in EMC Evaluations Does Not Violate Equal Protection

Last week the Third District Court of appeal upheld a lower court decision stating it was lawful to preclude a chiropractic physician from performing an EMC determination under the PIP statute, finding that part of the PIP statute did not violate the equal protection clause of the Florida Constitution.  Progressive American Ins.
