PIP Repeal Surfaces as Legislature Ramps Up

Tallahassee - A bill once again seeking to repeal Florida’s decades-old No-fault/PIP insurance system was formally filed in the Florida Senate on Friday. Sen. Jeff Brandes (R-St. Petersburg) introduced the measure, SB 896, aimed at eliminating the program, replacing it with a mandate that drivers carry certain levels of both bodily injury and property damage coverage instead. (Read on for a complete description.) No similar proposal has been introduced to date in the House.

DC & Student Contingent Shines Light on Chiropractic Issues

The cold weather was no deterrent for the 80 involved chiropractic physicians and students who took time from their practices and studies to visit legislators during the FCA's Annual Chiropractic Day at the Capitol 2019.   They gathered for a breakfast briefing before boarding a bus to the Capitol, then headed out for individual appointments with their legislators.

Government Required Posters for Your Office

The FCA receives calls from members on a regular basis, stating that they have received promotional mail offering up-to-date versions of one or all of the “posters you are required to display in your office” for a significant fee. Sometimes the poster service will tout a poster that isn’t even required by law.

News Hints at Another PIP/No-fault Fight

Tallahassee - Though new leaders in both the Florida House and Senate have largely been silent on the issue – along with the Florida Justice Association which led last year’s failed fight for a PIP repeal, suggesting they may have higher priorities this year – a Dec. 27th news item in the Palm Beach Post suggested another course might lie ahead. The Post article centered on a new study released by the website insure.com, a self-described “independent insurance consumer website,” claiming that Florida now has the third most expensive auto insurance rates among the states, topped by just Michigan and Louisiana.
