More PIP Proposals Surface as Lawmakers Get to Work

Monday, March 11, 2019, Tallahassee – Another pair of proposals seeking to reform Florida’s No-fault/PIP auto insurance system were introduced in Tallahassee just under the deadline as state legislators rolled up their sleeves last week to begin their 60-day annual session in the state capitol. Instead of seeking to repeal and replace the decades-old system, these latest ideas offer a variety of major revamp of treatment reporting and more restrictions on payments to all providers. Florida’s Annual Lawmaking Session Opens

Wednesday, March 5, 2019, Tallahassee – Yesterday marked the kick-off of Florida’s annual 60-day lawmaking session amid the traditional fanfare of opening day. Speeches, spouses and flowers all filled the House chamber as the three branches of state government came together as tradition dictates, to hear the Governor’s annual State-of-the-State address.  Senators and Reps were greeted on opening day with the traditional FCA sunflower placed on their chamber desk and accompanied by a poem by FCA Poet Laureate Sandy Lambert.

Interim Meetings End as Legislative Session Nears

Monday, February 25, 2019, Tallahassee – State lawmakers returned to the capitol last week for their final round of pre-session committee meetings. This week they will take a week off before heading back for the start of their 2019 Session on March 5th, an opening day set to include new Gov. Ron DeSantis’ first State of the State address.

Committee Work Continues on March to Annual Session

Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, Tallahassee – State lawmakers were in the capital last week, and will return again this week, for another round of pre-session committee meetings preparing for their annual 60-day lawmaking sojourn set to kick-off on March 5th. 

In addition to an assortment of proposals aimed at repealing and replacing No-fault/PIP auto insurance, there are a number of other schemes – both positive and negative – that could significantly affect chiropractic licensure and scope of practice. Add to that the reemergence of several other chiropractic groups with agendas competing with those of the FCA, most of which also serve to create confusion among lawmakers, and you’ll see this will be a very challenging season for your FCA Lobby Team.
