Senate Committee Advances PIP Repeal Bill: Medical Payments Requirement Now Includes Chiropractic

Tallahassee, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 – Earlier today the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee passed a controversial proposal aimed at repealing Florida’s decades old No-fault/PIP insurance requirement. Senate Bill 150 by Sen. Tom Lee (R-Brandon) passed on a vote of 10 to 1 after committee members heard over an hour of public comments. The FCA was the only chiropractic organization offering testimony on the bill.

First Coast Service Options (FCSO) Repayment Letters On Medicare Audit Findings

The FCA has received confirmation from some members that they have received letters from FCSO requesting repayments on audited claims denied by Strategic Health Solutions (SHS). There has also been at least one notice of additional payments received on codes reported as under coded. There are no reports of the repayments including an extrapolation to all payments made in 2015.
 
This is VERY good news.
 
The positive is that there was no extrapolation.  Most chiropractic physicians affected will be dealing with a couple thousand of dollars at most instead of tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.

So what should those doctors who were audited do now?

New Research: Increased Heart Rate Variability with Spinal Manipulation

In addition to reducing the sensitivity of muscle spindles or the segmental sites of a reflex pathway,1 spinal manipulation is thought to affect the neural outputs to both muscle and visceral organs by affecting both paraspinal muscle reflexes and motor neuron excitability.2 A new trial3 sought to determine the effect of spinal manipulative therapy upon both heart rate variability and baroflex sensitivity to add to the body of literature demonstrating the physiological effects of spinal manipulation.

Florida House Panel Advances Direct Care Proposal

Tallahassee – Earlier this morning the Health and Human Services Committee in the Florida House gave its unanimous approval to the Direct Primary Care Access Bill sponsored by Rep. Danny Burgess (R-San Antonio). With only one committee of reference the measure (HB 37) is now ready for consideration by the full House as early as January when state lawmakers will begin their annual regular session.
