Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, Tallahassee – State lawmakers were in the capital last week, and will return again this week, for another round of pre-session committee meetings preparing for their annual 60-day lawmaking sojourn set to kick-off on March 5th.
In addition to an assortment of proposals aimed at repealing and replacing No-fault/PIP auto insurance, there are a number of other schemes – both positive and negative – that could significantly affect chiropractic licensure and scope of practice. Add to that the reemergence of several other chiropractic groups with agendas competing with those of the FCA, most of which also serve to create confusion among lawmakers, and you’ll see this will be a very challenging season for your FCA Lobby Team.
Tallahassee - A bill once again seeking to repeal Florida’s decades-old No-fault/PIP insurance system was formally filed in the Florida Senate on Friday. Sen. Jeff Brandes (R-St. Petersburg) introduced the measure, SB 896, aimed at eliminating the program, replacing it with a mandate that drivers carry certain levels of both bodily injury and property damage coverage instead. (Read on for a complete description.) No similar proposal has been introduced to date in the House.
DC & Student Contingent Shines Light on Chiropractic Issues
The cold weather was no deterrent for the 80 involved chiropractic physicians and students who took time from their practices and studies to visit legislators during the FCA's Annual Chiropractic Day at the Capitol 2019. They gathered for a breakfast briefing before boarding a bus to the Capitol, then headed out for individual appointments with their legislators.
The FCA receives calls from members on a regular basis, stating that they have received promotional mail offering up-to-date versions of one or all of the “posters you are required to display in your office” for a significant fee. Sometimes the poster service will tout a poster that isn’t even required by law.
