State Lawmakers Continue Prep for 2020 Session

Tallahassee, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019 – State legislators returned to the capitol the last two weeks, continuing committee work in preparation for their annual 60-day legislative session set to begin on January 14th. Individual member bills also continue to be filed daily and most committees are turning their attention to early hearings and consideration of many of the proposals. Following is a closer look at several bills of interest to the profession that saw committee action over the last two weeks.

Warm-up Continues for 2020 Legislative Session

Friday, October 25, 2019, Tallahassee – State legislators returned to Tallahassee the last two weeks for more committee work in preparation for their 2020 Session slated to kickoff on January 14th. Senators also convened this week in an extraordinary special session to consider the fate of Broward County Sheriff Scott. Following their debate, Senators voted 25 to 15 to remove Israel from office, supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis’ previous action to suspend him from office, after many questioned his leadership relating to the Parkland school shooting tragedy.

Record Student Impact for Chiropractic Day at the Capitol

Student leaders from all three of Florida’s chiropractic colleges made the trip to Tallahassee for the FCA’s pre-2020 Session Chiropractic Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, October 15, setting a record for student participation at 45 attendees.  They joined with a large contingent of FCA member DC’s to call on legislators, making a positive impression for chiropractic and shining a light on issues important to the profession.

PIP/No-Fault Auto Insurance Repeal Filed in Senate – Again

Thursday, September 26, 2019, Tallahassee – Legislation proposing to repeal Florida’s decades-old PIP/No-fault auto insurance coverage requirement was formally filed yesterday by Sen. Tom Lee (R-Brandon). Lee is no stranger to the issue, having filed similar measures during each of the Legislature’s three past sessions since 2017.

They’re Back: State Lawmakers Prep for 2020 Session

Tallahassee, Friday, September 20, 2019 – State lawmakers returned to the capitol this week following their summer break to begin committee work in preparation for their 2020 Session slated to kick off in January. A constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2018 officially moved the start date of sessions in even-numbered years to an earlier January-February timeframe instead of their traditional March-April meeting dates.
