Florida Blue & ASH: Important Update
Monday, 08 December 2014

Important Update and Questions Answered1

FCA CEO Debbie Brown, Assistant General Counsel Kim Driggers, and Insurance Chair Art Levine, attended an FCA-requested, in-person meeting with Florida Blue and American Specialty Health Group (ASH) representatives on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, in Jacksonville, FL.

Based upon heavy call volume from Florida DCs regarding the announcement of Florida Blue’s planned shift of management of its network to ASH beginning April 1, 2015, the FCA is providing this summary (a) to assist in answering frequently asked questions so that individual Florida DCs can make an informed individual decision as to whether or not to join the ASH/Florida Blue network; and (b) to let members know that the FCA understands the importance of this change and is staying engaged in the process to the extent allowed by law.  We emphasize that the antitrust laws require that each member/DC make his or her own individual decision whether or not to join the ASH/Florida Blue network without consultation or discussion with any other member/DC’s and without informing any other member/DC whether he or she intends to participate in the network or not.  Likewise, we cannot provide you with any recommendation.  Each practice must make its own decision based on its individual best interest and that of its patients.
