All Hands on Deck!

As usual, National Convention gives C.E. a whole new meaning!  We’ve brought back and enhanced the new Plenary Session Saturday morning this year to get attendees not only a taste of what’s being offered class-wise throughout the convention, but to get everyone excited for the future of our great profession!  This year we’re offering full courses for DCs, CCPAs and CAs, CRTs and LMTs.  We even have entire tracks specifically designed for the “new doctor,” front office CA and back office CA, as well as one designed by the International Academy of Clinical Neurology for those wishing to get their neurology diplomate CE, so bring the entire staff for information that will go to work for them-and you-on Monday!  There are also courses that can be taken towards a Nutrition Diplomate, as well as the RCA Training Courses for CAs wishing to take advantage of that.  Don’t forget the “Buy-One, Get-One” offer for CCPAs, CAs and CRTs registering with their doctor from the same office.  We make it easy to do it conveniently on YOUR schedule with FCA FLEX TIME’s “early” Thursday afternoon classes.  For DCs, the 20 hours of license renewal credits offered—including Risk Management, two hours of Laws and Rules, two hours of Prevention of Medical Errors, two hours of Ethics and the six hours of Documentation/Record Keeping/Coding—are approved in Florida and some 47 other states, so register today!

Workers’ Compensation Certification Course

FCA NATIONAL CONVENTION ANCILLARY PROGRAM
(Separate Registration and Fee Required)

Thursday, August 26
7:30 - 8 a.m.

Workers’ Comp Registration
8 a.m. - Noon

by Mollie Frawley, R.N.

This separate program offers attendees a unique opportunity to attend a ‘must have’ pre-certification program to facilitate their participation in Florida’s workers’ compensation. Based on the original five hour course, approved by the Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation, this program prepares practitioners new to Florida workers’ compensation and updates veteran practitioners in what mandates the healthcare practitioner MUST DO to be compliant.

  • Countering insurers’ limitations on access to chiropractic
  • Mandated form due within 24 hours of EVERY office visit
  • 2009 changes to fee schedule, including HCPCS codes
  • Six prerequisites to getting paid
  • Stringent reimbursement dispute regulations

Mollie is a dynamic presenter who has provided outstanding training in workers’ comp issues since 1994. This program is designed to help practitioners and their office staff better establish themselves in Workers’ compensation, despite the inherent regulatory and industry challenges.

Attend if you are not yet certified, want to get up to date on current mandates or have office staff who would benefit.

Registered CA

Registered CA Training Program

Increasingly, third party systems are resisting reimbursement for services rendered by "unlicensed personnel," even when directly supervised by a physician.  Thankfully, Florida Statutes provide the authority for a supervising DC to register his/her supervision of a specific chiropractic assistant with the Department of Health and that registration is recognized by the state as a form of licensure.  The cost to register a CA is $30 for each supervising DC.  The application can be found on www.fcachiro.org by entering "registered CA" in the search box or by going to this address: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/chiro/chiro_lic_req.html

The supervising DC is responsible for training and direct supervision of a registered (or unregistered) CA in the rendering of any delegated care.  In response to member requests, the FCA has explored the offering of basic clinical staff training that would provide a sound foundation for CAs to render supervised patient care and excel as a member of the staff team in a chiropractic office and would provide proof of such training in the form of a certificate of completion from an accredited chiropractic college.

Beginning at it's Panhandle Convention 2010, the FCA initiated a pilot program, in cooperation with New York Chiropractic College, to provide voluntary Registered CA Training at FCA conventions.  As the upcoming National Convention in Kissimmee, all three 8-hour modules will be offered over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 27-29, comprising 24 hours of training in:

  • Ethics & Terminology
  • Basic Concepts in Radiology
  • Human Biology/Documentation & Coding
  • Physical Therapy
  • Administrative Proceedures
  • Patient/Staff Communication

CAs who wish to achieve a certificate of completion from NYCC (and have these hours applied toward possible future CCPA training) simply register for the convention in the "registered CA training" category, fill out the NYCC enrollment form and pay the additional processing fee of $30 to NYCC.  Class attendance will be taken for these CAs and an FCA certificate of attendance will be issued to those who fully attend selected modules.  For those who complete all 24 hours, a certificate of completeion will be issued directly by NYCC.  (Attendance will not be taken for any CA who registers for the "Spouse/CA/CCPA category and attends up to 12 hours of classes simply for personal enrichment.)

Those same 24 hours, if recorded/maintained by NYCC, would serve as credits toward any future program offered through NYCC to provide the 200 hours required by statute in order to be Florida-licensed as a Certified Chiropractic Physician's Assistant.

RCA Training Program Goals

Upon successful completion of the 24-hour, 3-module program, CAs, under direct supervision, will be able to:

  • Understand the ethical requirements necessary to work in the field of healthcare in general, and chiropractic specifically
  • Be familiar with commonly used medical/chiropractic terminology
  • Understand basic anatomy and physiology
  • Assist the chiropractic physician with placement of patients for x-rays and developing proceedures.
  • Administer physical therapy modalities and procedures.
  • Understand appropriate coding and documentation requirements of the chiropractic office.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients and third party payers.

Here's What You Need to Do to Register

  1. Complete the FCA convention registration form or register online.
  2. If your office wants to take advantage of two for one (BOGO) registration,  print and mail the registration form by adding a second name for "RCA Training." This BOGO offer only applies when staff registers at the same time their doctor registers.
  3. If you wish to receive a certificate of completion and transcripts from NYCC, download and complete the separate NYCC RCA Training Program form and include the $30 fee per CA when you mail your convention registration fee(s).  The tracking fee is not included in the two-for-one offer.
  4. Online Registrants that have already paid the $30 tracking fee along with their registration, should fax the form to 407-656-5433
